Scope
Project Details.
Northern General Hospital – Chesterman Wing Cardiothoracic Theatres.
Following a competitive tendering exercise Porter Electrical were awarded the contract by the approved main contractor to modernise and refurbish the existing Chesterman Wing Cardiothoracic Theatres.
The project is scheduled to be completed in phases over a 2-and-a-half-year period. This is because of the complex layout of the operating theatres area, which shares a total of 5 operating theatres. The theatres will continue in service whilst the refurbishment works to adjacent theatres are being completed.
Our Solution

Strategic planning and a vast amount of enabling works beforehand has played a key role in the first 3 phases of works which we are proud to show are now complete.
Works consisted of the following.
- New Staff Room and W/Cs
- New Administrations offices and Nurses station
- Refurbishment of the Cardiothoracic Recovery Department
Electrical works completed.
- Removal of redundant electrical installation
- Installation of a new containment system
- Installation and the modification of the electrical distribution system
- The supply and installation of new IPS / UPS Systems
- Modifications to the existing Fire Detection & Alarm Systems
- Installation of a smoke damper system
- Installation of a small new power installation
- Installation of a new general lighting installation
- Installation of a new emergency escape lighting system
- Installation of new surgeon’s control panels
- Installation of the existing surgeon’s lights
- Installation of new medical pendants
- Installation of new power supplies to the mechanical plant
